Stephen Marvie, the Deputy Minister for
Administration at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry was reportedly
upon the order of the Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice and
charged for issuing bad checks to a business woman early this week.
According to court order, Minister
Marvie`s arrest was predicated upon a complaint filed by Marwen Marvie
(relationship not stipulated in the writ), who stated that on the 19th
day of March in Monrovia, defendant Marvie did issue to her a check to
be drawn from the Liberia Bank for Development & Investment (LBDI).
According to the writ of arrest, the
US$6,000 written on the check when presented to the teller for
encashment the same was dishonored by the bank. The writ noted that the
action was in contrary to section 15.58 of the New Penal Law of Liberia.
“The alleged act of the defendant being
unlawful, wicked illegal and intentional is in violation of the law
cited above, there and then, the crime herein defendant did he commit,”
the writ noted.
Meanwhile, he has been released on bill at the Monrovia City Court arrest by police
