On October 17, 2016, MacDella Cooper annouced her interest in contesting for 2017 presidential elections, at a resort in Monrovia. Cooper is
the assumed political leader of the Union of Liberian Democrats (ULD),
recognized and certificated by the National Elections Commission (NEC).
Ms. Cooper is from Webbo District in Maryland County. She got a full
scholarship to attend the College of New Jersey in the United States and
earned a degree in communications. She had an illustrious career in the
fashion industry. In 2004 she decided to return to Liberia to seek the
welfare of children. She founded the MacDella Cooper Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educate abandoned children and
orphans. She is a single mother with three daughters.
